To Peter Siranian there was no comparison between Atlanta and Boston. Sure, Atlanta had the Braves. They were having a good year. But Boston had the Red Sox with the best record in baseball. Sure, Atlanta had barbecue and grits. But what could be better than clam chowder and lobster? When it snowed two inches in Atlanta, the city was paralyzed for days. In Boston when it snowed 110 inches a year, the city had snowplows for drivers and snow days for kids. Atlanta might have Georgia Tech, but Boston had Harvard, MIT, and 62 other colleges and universities. It was the intellectual jewel of America. With one exception, Atlanta’s Centers for Disease Control, a world class Federal agency that found and fought epidemics.
